Alright! I’m so excited to be sitting down and writing this post. It’s a little scary to have it all in writing but at the end of the day, I know it’s a good thing….My 2017 goals for the house renovation. I can’t believe I’m 6 months in to the project already. I feel like I haven’t gotten anything done but when I look at my list I realize I’ve been able to check a lot of stuff off. I’ve got some hard set goals I would like to accomplish but I’ve also got some, if I have time I would love to get this done, items too. We’ll see what really happens. I’m not going to beat myself up about any of it but it really helps me to have clear goals that are broken down into manageable chunks. “House renovation complete in 2018” is a really broad and overwhelming goal so I like to break it up into bite sized chunks.
Let’s take a look at what I plan to do in the next 12 months.
- Finish drywall in spare bedrooms (This week, Fingers crossed!!!)
- Remove closet and repair drywall in master bedroom
- Refinish PAX system and install in master bedroom
- Laundry Room Overhaul
- Get new Washer and Dryer
- Main Bathroom expansion/Renovation
- Remove popcorn ceiling in master bedroom
- Paint all three bedrooms and laundry room
- Install window molding in spare rooms and living room
- Install French doors in master bedroom
- Install new light fixtures in hallway
- Organize garage/tools
As you can tell my “Ideal Goals” are mostly finishing touches that will help the first half of 2018 go much more smoothly. Nothing major and nothing keeping me from working on the next project. And of course in my “Real Goals” there are like a million line items to add under each goal. The two big goals of this year are the laundry room overhaul and the main bathroom expansion/renovation. They are both going to be challenging but will make our lives so much easier and more organized. I just want to rip everything out and do it all right now!
Taking a few minutes to write out these goals actually made me feel a million times better about my to-do list for this next year. In my head the list was a thousand miles long but writing it out it was much shorter than I thought. Once I’m ready to get started on each task, I’ll make a comprehensive list for that task then I’ll just plug away at my lists. Again, I like to keep it simple so that I don’t get overwhelmed with the enormity of this project. As you can see, big things are coming in 2017 and I can’t wait to share them with you.
